As one of the two children born under China’s one-child policy, I was not allowed to call my mother "Mama" for years, making the word both familiar and foreign to me. In this performance, I repeatedly practice pronouncing "Mama," teaching myself by following the mechanical sounds, while using my left hand (the non-dominant hand) to write "Mama" with a plaster cast of my bellybutton as chalk to reconnect with my mother.
